Tsongkhapa Day
Date: Thursday, 03/12/2026 7:00 pm
7pm – 8.30pm
‘Tsongkhapa Day’ is a celebration of the anniversary of the parinirvana of the great Tibetan yogi and scholar, Lama Tsongkhapa.
Tsongkhapa is credited with founding the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and is considered one of the greatest Tibetan Buddhist masters. The date of his passing is celebrated on the twenty-fifth day of the tenth month of the Tibetan calendar.
The commemoration of Tsongkhapa the Great will be celebrated at Tibetan Buddhist Institute with a Guru Puja ritual.
The Guru Puja – “Lama Chopa” in Tibetan – is a practice in the Gelug tradition of making offerings to the spiritual master and includes a review of all the points of the combined sutra and tantra path to enlightenment. It is a beautiful ritual and there are many different tunes sung throughout a session.
All welcome.
